FAQ

Will I receive royalties for subsequent works by Paul Story?

Yes but not just royalties. Income generated from the sale of movie and other rights, publishers' advances and any engagements directly relating to my work as an author are included. Collectively, you will own half of the author in me until I free myself by repaying your faith.

Why don't you just submit to publishers and agents like everyone else?

Writers can no longer be passive participants in the sale of their work once they have created it. Publishers take risks with new talent and, as a business, minimise those risks as much as possible. A good book with a ready following and an author willing and able to promote their work, is far more attractive than a good book on its own.

Do I have to pay full price for the SE up front?

No. While the money is important, the endorsement from people willing to invest, is far more valuable. By only taking 20% of the cost of the SE at the time of pre-ordering, the risk to supporters is much smaller than the headline figure of $500. I want people to feel comfortable that they can gain a lot for such a small outlay.

What happens if a publisher does not pick up the novel?

While I believe in my work, there is no guarantee of success. This is the primary reason for staging payments. Remember however, that by investing $100 now, you are buying the right to tap into my future earnings as an author, no matter what route I take to get there. I will continue to write and work hard to make this happen. It is in my interest to demonstrate to you that you should give me the balance to complete the purchase of the SE. In the meantime, if I attract an agent or publisher, I may stop offering shares - even if the number is low. I will do this because the main purpose behind the sale has been achieved and I will not want to give away more shares than I need to. At this point, you will be in a strong position because I must offer you the opportunity even if the deal lurches to become one-sided in your favour.

Why not just use the money to form a company and bypass publishers?

Having the power of a large publishing house behind a book should not be undervalued. While I am confident that an independent company with so much going for it could make a lot of money, I would rather spend the time and energy writing the next book in the series. However, if at sometime in the future, I have raised enough cash, and no deal has been made, I will take this route and make it succeed.

Can I use my company name on a page?

Yes but please contact before purchase.

When will I have to pay the balance?

You will be asked for the balance when the risk to each investor is minimal. If I ask too early, people will just walk away.

Can I walk away if I decide not to continue after paying the deposit?

Yes. However, you will lose the deposit.

How high is the risk?

The highest risk is to your deposit. You put nothing else toward the project until I convince you that we are on a successful roll. That will be evident because if I have to convince you, it's probably too early to call. The stakes will only increase when that risk drops. So your question at this stage is - Can I afford $100US to back an artist doing something quite unique? Am I convinced it could work? Do I want it to?

Cut the waffle and summarise

If the novel is good and this venture attracts public attention, all the ingredients are present to make this a huge success. Everything else on this site is designed around that statement. I want you to listen to Tom Corven or read the appraisal mannuscript. If you think it is consistent with the above then put a 20% deposit on the SE and spread the word. When the highest risk has been dissipated you will be given 2 weeks to pay the balance. You will then own a part of me until I deliver the return I promised.
